Boney Manilli

John Anson Ford Amphitheatre, Los Angeles

Fall/Winter 2018

A current partnership with director Edgar Arceneaux, live-performance Boney Manilli is inspired by pop acts Boney M and Milli Vanilli, the brainchildren of German producer Frank Farrian, who used lip-syncing black artists as avatars for his own voice. Boney Manilli forces viewers to reconsider collective participation in historic events and entertainment, in the current context of alternative facts and racial division. As visual dramaturg, I lead actors, designers and writers through workshops and rehearsals, provoking them to express ideas visually, forming unique foundations for storytelling.
