Holoscenes

Costume Designer

Holoscenes is an underwater performance installation which weaves the unraveling story of water — the rising seas, melting glaciers, intensifying floods and droughts — into the patterns of the everyday. Performers execute mundane activities in a giant aquarium, adapting to repeatedly changing water levels – a metaphor for connecting individual everyday behaviors to long-term societal patterns driving global warming. The narratives in Holoscenes were gathered from visual stories submitted by people in the global community.  The behavior of struggling bodies and costumes, responding to dramatic forces of water, demanded the exploring transformative abilities of materials in a new performance environment.
